A living lab is a collection of people, equipment, services and technology to provide a test platform for research and experiments.

What is Far North Living Lab?

The Far North Living Lab has a main focus on digital media and distribution to reflect the very creative environment found in the North of Norway.

The lab will provide basic services to projects using it, like high speed network connectivity, data storage and P2P distribution technology. The Living Lab will also provide infrastructure to share knowledge and announce events. It coverNorthern Norway is a very big place, and reaching the creative souls of the whole region is important.

How is the lab organised?

Far North Living Lab obtained status as a member of the European Network of Living Labs in the fourth wave of acceptance in March 2010. The lab was found to meet all criteria for a membership.

Experiments within the lab will be part of projects that finance most experiment costs. If you have an interesting idea for a new project, please contact us.

You can join as an End user, Content producer (artist, musician) or a company (service providers, content distributors).

Lab background

The project was established through a pre-project that was partly financed by Innovasjon Norge, Bredbandsfylket and the partners. While we seek to keep costs at a minimum, it is necessary for the lab to have some funding. We are open for commercial partners and projects to provide both money, equipment or services to the lab. June 2009: Our Far North Living Lab Launch - VideoOnDemand of a 2K resolution video.
October 2009: Pudovkin's Mother live to Beijing + the world using P2P live streaming, 2mbit/s full PAL resolution. Together with the Insomnia festival, we performed the re-composed Pudovkin's "Mother" live in the Far North Living Lab and Notch Festival in Beijing. You can also drop by and see how it worked by watching a clip re-live.
June 2010: We were streaming the opening and closing of the NUFF Film Festival from Verdensteateret in Tromsø.
